Huddle Desktop

Huddle Desktop is a third-party proof-of-concept application allowing users to view Huddle workspaces, folders and files all from their own machine. It allows interaction with your files in new and exciting ways, not possible on the website: drag-and-drop files into and out of Huddle Desktop and they’re uploaded or downloaded automatically.

Huddle Desktop is available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux as it is built on the Adobe AIR framework.

Huddle Desktop is open source, not officially supported by Huddle.net and is provided as-is. All of the source code is released under the GNU General Public License (v3) and is hosted on the project page at Google Code. We encourage third-party developers to get involved with the project, make fixes and improvements.

Download Huddle Desktop

Huddle Desktop is available as a one-click installation from the web. Just click Install Now below!

It will also install the Adobe AIR application if you don’t have it already, which is required for this application to run.

FAQs

Do Huddle.net support Huddle Desktop?

Because Huddle Desktop is an open source project, we do not officially support it. We encourage users to play with the application and provide feedback via the project page at Google Code. If you are a coder, understand javascript, PHP, the AIR framework and Huddle’s REST API why not get involved in making the project even better?

What is it for?

This is a desktop client for the Huddle.net services. It allows you to access your workspaces and files; you can upload folders and files through drag and drop; you can download one or more files or a folder at the time.

How do I install it?

Simply click the install link above. It will automatically install the Adobe Air runtime, which is required for this application, then install the Huddle application.

What are the system requirements?

This application runs on Windows, Mac OS and Linux. There are no additional requirements than those of the Adobe Air Runtime

Why should I use it?

If you’re always uploading or downloading files to huddle, or need to do a lot at once!

Is it secure though?

Huddle Desktop uses the Huddle API which is protected by SSL security, so your data in transit is safe, more information is available on the api page. Your username and password aren’t saved when the application exits.

Is there anything it doesn’t do?

Yes, but not many! Just a couple of things: if you drag a folder in or out of the application, it will download or upload only the contents of the folder – the folder currently won’t be created. E.g. if you drag a folder from your computer onto a folder in the Huddle application, the application will put the contents of that folder in the folder online for you.

Documentation

More detailed documentation for developers is available on the Wiki pages hosted by Google Code, at http://code.google.com/p/huddledesktop/w/list. This includes details on how to compile the application, its flow, and information on the code contained in the repository.

Additional notes and descriptions of the function the code performs are in comments in the individual code files.
